Gannon University Names Interim Dean of Morosky College of Health Professions and Sciences

Erie, Pa. – Sarah J. Ewing, Ph.D. has been named interim Dean of the Morosky College of Health Professions and
Sciences at Gannon University effective January 2017 and will continue to serve for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. Ewing
had served as the College’s associate dean since July 2015.

In this position she will lead the College while a national search is prepared to fill the position permanently. In terms of
enrollment, the Morosky College is the largest of Gannon University’s three academic colleges, which also include the
College of Engineering and Business and the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences.

Ewing joined Gannon University in 2009 as assistant professor of biology and director of pre-health professional programs.
She was named chair of the Department of Biology in 2013 and associate professor two years later.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, where she was a
University Schreyer Scholar and received the Excellence in Biology Award. She was awarded her Ph.D. in comparative
biomedical sciences - cell biology from North Carolina State University, Raleigh.

Ewing has published and presented widely on her research, often conducted with undergraduate students, and was
honored in 2013 with the Council of Undergraduate Research Biology Division’s Early Career Undergraduate Mentoring
Award. Also that year, she was presented with Gannon University’s Undergraduate Faculty Research Award and Bishop
Persico “Veritas In Caritate” Award.

In service to her profession she is a member of the Pennsylvania Academy of Science, the Council of Undergraduate
Research, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Northwest PA Chapter of Sigma Xi - The
Scientific Research Society.

In service to her community, Ewing is a member of the boards of Hooked on Books for Kids and the Civic Art Realty
Company. She is also a member of United Way of Erie County’s Young Leaders Society.
